The economy is suffering and yet you not only want to do your part (by spending and keeping it going) but you also still feel the need to express yourself and your sense of style.
With the continuation of new fashions hitting the stores almost weekly and a tightened budget, there is really one sure way to invest in your wardrobe without misdirection and regret: align your purchases with your favourite style icons.
Choose three leading ladies (or men, really) who represent the style you respond to and would like to be identified with. Choose actresses, authors, designers or anyone who you admire. For example, Katharine Hepburn, or Audrey, Ashley Olson, Stella McCartney, Anna Wintour. Pick three and have a clear sense of what you are attracted to in their styles. Then when you set out to add an item or two to your wardrobe you will not be swayed by some of the moment fad that only gets worn once. Instead, you will be shaping your sense of style and making investments in your wardrobe.
A little forethought and a clearer idea of how you want to be perceived go a long way and make your dollar go ever further.
