Using repurposed and excess materials, American Apparel has started the “Creative Reuse” project and line. As much as 20% of the fabric used to produce the patterned pieces that are cut from a slab of fabric wind up as excess cuttings, and usually waste. No longer! American Apparel is committed to turning these trimmings into usable pieces. As you might imagine, the majority are smaller articles- like scrunchies, headbands and intimate bras and panties. 

You can purchase the full line of Creative Reuse or fashion your own reworkings of scrap fabric available in 1.6 pound bundles called Bag-O-Scraps. American Apparel even has a DIY download section dedicated to guiding your creative ambitions. Really great initiative- and certainly a staunch contrast to how H&M ‘disposed’ of their excess materials.
