I’ve touched upon this topic before- that you don’t have control over other people and their actions- but I never quite realized what it is that I do personally to safeguard against being disappointed when someone let’s me down.
See, I am specifically talking about when you make plans with a person and they fall through. Work, transport, or sometimes just a lack of clear communication upset plans that had been made. My motto is, “It’s not the end of the World,” and I noticed that I always brought with me a back-up plan…
Wherever I go I bring a magazine or a book or a downloaded podcast with me. That way, whenever I wind up alone and waiting or sometimes simply alone, I am enjoying something that I would have been doing anyway. Such a little adjustment, but so effective in keeping me content and even-minded when plans do not pan out as, well, planned.
