Tell me what you want, what you really really want.

We live in a time where consumption and over- consumption are ripe! The seasons are blending together and the fashions for and between them are speeding up. Technology is continuing its accelerated path upwards without limit. Media has filled our heads with celebrity lifestyles and suddenly we feel we have to subscribe to this “standard” that doesn’t actually exist. It all leads to a lot of clutter.

It reminds me of the commercial from Bing that is out right now, in which the parents of a teen are asked a question and they spit out fragments of overloaded stimulus from the Internet instead of real thoughts. What a wonderful illustration of what is happening to our minds- and more importantly, our peace of mind.

I think what it all comes down to is the fact that we have allowed ourselves to create imaginary necessities. We feel we must have this product or that service, and we also fill our days up with meaningless socializing and a lot of buzz time staying up on any number of things. I am not suggesting we go back to the Stone Age and concentrate only on gathering food- but I do think it is a perfect time to evaluate where you give your time and how it affects you mind. Then you can weed out the real from the imagined necessities and get what you really want.
