Me, myself and I.

From a very young age, I was taught that I can do anything! Did you receive the same unconditional confidence from your parents? So, I grew up knowing that I could do whatever I put my mind to. Truthfully, not much has changed, except the terms in which I now feel I have the capacity to really do anything.

As of late, I feel a strong message coming through… “You don’t have to do everything on your own.” I would take that a step further and say, “You really shouldn’t do everything on  your own.” The American Dream ideology has instilled this sense of strong will and need for ownership, yet what about that saying, “Two minds are better than one?”

See, I am beginning to realize that I can do anything I set my mind to. It may take many years of my life, but if I have my heart set on it and all my energy goes there, I will accomplish my goal. Though, my recent epiphany is that there are many people out there who are eager and well-equipped to help me on my path. And vice versa, I can help them. Suddenly, I feel like my work and ambition doesn’t have to be a secret- coveted and nurtured only by me in silence. Instead, I share my hopes, dreams and ideas and sometimes someone else has a suggestion, or connection or wants to jump on board.

I can get there on my own, but extending and accepting the help of others expedites the process. I think we all feel scared at times to share our hopes and dreams aloud, but by putting them out there and opening the tool boxes that those around us have, we have a far better chance of actualizing our ideas and on a shorter timeline.
