Y-3 S/S 10 NYFW.

Whoa- that title looks like a barcode- but if it is to a piece from theĀ Y-3 collection shown yesterday here in NYC for Fashion Week, I will gladly take it!

Set in the Park Avenue Armory, the show felt more like a high school indoor soccer match- esspecially with the National Anthem roaring around the space as the opening song. All the fashionistas, press people and celebrities couldn’t decide if they should put their hand over their chest and sing along, or feign boredom…

And the fun spirit of a high school home game ensued with Guns and Roses, mixed in with some Michael Jackson booming over the PA system. The models strode out classic Yohji Yamamoto attire- a mix between tailored pieces for the ultra thin and slouchy layers that looked like expensive travel attire. The combination was perfect.

A couple of my favorites for the women included an assymetrical cut fitted blazer with 3/4 sleeves. I also died when I saw the mesh ensembles. There were dresses that started off solid at the top and about mid thigh turned into fishing net mesh, cascading all the way to the floor. Loved it!

For both men and women it seems the very trendy European slouchy jodhpur has made it’s way to in to the fashion limelight. Yamamoto took it to the extreme with extra fabric sagging behind the, well, behind and with a couple of exagerated pockets or at least a nice and visible Y-3 logo. In fact, the Y-3 logo was everywhere in this collection. Blown up on the mesh dresses, printed across the brim of a massive sun hat and stamped on the shoulders of the more tailored pieces.

Finally, what would Y-3 be without an amazing, and in this case, very colorful shoe collection. Red, orange, green with yellow, pink… The shoes were all bright and shiny and ready to go!

I have to say, Y-3 always carries that certain designer detail in the cut and materials, and this collection had a very runway to realway appeal.

The light and playful presentation of the new collection prevailed all the way until the finale when a massive net dropped from the ceiling and Yohji came out, recruted a member of the audience, and had a kick off!
