Yesterday I got my hair cut. Or, I should say, I got my hairs cut. But that is not all I got. I had one of the best haircut experiences… ever. Yep, that good. And I am very particular about my locks! I placed my very damaged and recovering hair (you read my post on apres extensions hair care right?) in the extremely capable hands of Monsieur Abell Ouhaddou at the Salih Salon in New York.
A God send to us mortals striving to obtain lustrous healthy head-turning hair, Abell is the real deal. He understands the chemistry (!) behind hair and how to treat it. My kind of man, plus he is French- another gold star added. ;)
I, on the other hand, am either a stylist like this’ dream or most annoying customer. I love the details and if I find a knowledgable source, I will milk it. Here are the tips I have been cleared to share- I can’t spill all his wonderful secrets…
- During the summertime, do not use a blow dryer! This is the time of year that your hair can recover because styling it in a casual cool messy way is best done when you simply let it air dry. And opt for a non-precise part to complete the effect.
- If you have fine hair (comme moi) don’t use a conditioner at all during the summer, or if you must- just use a lightweight detangler (remember those…) Heavy conditioners coat the strands and will bond some of them together- weighing down your hair and making it more stringy.
- To get natural highlights and create more definition in your hair, dip a comb into vodka and run it through your hair before spending time soaking up rays at the pool or beach. If you naturally have hair that picks up color during the summer, this is a subtle way to increase it and it will intensify over time.
- Change up your part. Especially if you can see that your hair grows in one direction- swap sides and you will get a lot more lift at the base.
The last and final tip remains a mystery to me as Abell treats but does not tell. He has the most amazing hair treatment he has concocted and called Osyrium that literally gives you back your virgin hair. We are talking a full return to sealed undamaged hair shafts, shine and softness of a child’s head. Not available to the public, you have to visit the man himself to reap the benefits. Not a bad deal considering you will come away with a wealth of knowledge, hair women will die for and an opportunity to practice ton Francias, si tu vuex.
