People are like a box of chocolates.

I think people are like a box of chocolates. We change our outer packaging to accommodate the season, setting, mood… Yet, the same time tested and loved inner attributes remain the same.  At times, those ingredients shift too- sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don’t. But they are still always there. That is who you are and depending upon the situation (environment is the strongest influence) different aspects rise to the top.

I have lived in a lot of places (at least for my age…)- Wyoming, Colorado, California, Nepal, India, France, London and now New York. Each time going through the “expatriot” cycle.

I feel excitement followed by the setting in of real life and often times (at first) loneliness.  Luckily, adaptation comes along and soon I feel comfortable and like myself again. I feel myself expand and find my niche- exploring culture, food, fashion, music, language and isms, activities and people.

Then I plateau off- but on an elevated level. I kind of float in a new space where life feels normal and good. And so do I.  It isn’t until I am again out of my now familiar setting, or deeper within a new one, that I notice I have changed.

For me, it is about getting to that place where you catch yourself in the mirror or in a moment of truth- where the reality of who you are in that very moment is different and you sense it, but feel more like yourself than ever.

I say keep the transitions coming- I have a whole box of tricks ready to tantalize the taste buds of myself and the people in my life.

If you have a transition to speak of- write about it and post it with ModLife. They are all for transitions and want to hear about yours in their Terrific Transformations Contest (hurry, tomorrow is the last day)!
