Last night I was a lucky little fashionista who was invited to attend the Gen Art 15th Anniversary Benefit. Founders Ian Gerard and Charles Sommer created the organization whilst they were in law school at NYU when they identified a need for support for new designers, film producer and artists.
Fifteen years later, Gen Art has helped hundreds of artists launch their careers and gain the financial support through sponsors to make a mark. As a shell organization- the money donated is turned around and given to the emerging artists. Right now it is more crucial than ever to give to allow Gen Art to continue fueling the development of the next great artists.
I must say New York society delivered! Around 1000 attendees last night mingled in an array of fashionable attire and provided further entertainment aside from the selected pieces displayed in the space.
Major trends where of course the one shoulder dress- in both demure black and bright eighties patterns. London styles also made an appearance with floral tutu dresses flittered around in the sea of black, whilst neon made itself know in displays of silk strapless numbers.
Quirky accessories were also about in the form of bright turquoise shoes, neon green fringe bracelets and feathered hair adornments.
The fashion was certainly up to par, let’s hope that the donations stood up as well.
