DIY Facial.

Stress of the economic downturn- and the cost cutting of your favourite things- does not mean you have to wear it on your face.  You can treat yourself to a cost effective and personalized facial right in your own home.  Here’s how!

Start by securing your hair out of your face with a headband and wash your face with a mild cleanser.

Next get a large bowl of steaming hot water (preferably boiled), drop a couple of essential oil drops in (I like eucalyptus and lavender), lean over the bowl and drape a large towel over your head to create a self-contained “head steam room”.  Gauge your time under the towel by listening to a song or two.

After you have opened your pores, pat dry your face with a towel and slather on a masque that suites your skin type.  I like to use a purifying clay mask, but if you need moisturizing use one that is hydrating.  Allow the masque to sit for about twenty minutes- I will sometimes leave mine on for an hour whilst I clean up around my flat or catch up on emails.

Use a washcloth with very warm water to literally rub off your masque- this is part of the exfoliating process.

Next, you may want to spray a toner on- I use the Caudalie Beauty Elixer spray, which has essential oils that draw moisture deeper into your skin.  Then apply a layer of hydrating or balancing night cream.  Also, be sure to use an eye cream on your eye area and lips where the skin is more delicate.

Doing this before you go to bed, and using products that are a bit thicker is really advantageous as your body heats up at night while you sleep and will better absorb the moisture.  Wake up feeling refreshed and with a glowing complexion!
