Travelling recently, both internationally and domestically, I find myself attempting to perfect the combination of bags. Of course the art of packing perfectly, relating to both organization and falling right within that “not too much” and “not too little” equilibrium, is still entirely beyond me. However, I do think I may have discovered the secret to the handbag!
As a travel savvy fashionista you have two options: the notorious Longchamp shoulder tote or a medium sized designer handbag in a hobo or bucket shape.
You obviously want to select a bag that reflects your taste and style, and will be appropriate for a number of occasions, which arise when you travel. First there is the travelling bit, then the day shopping, museum perusing, city walking, restaurant visiting and cocktail lounging. You need a bag that fits the bill for each venue, and you only want to bring one.
Here are some basic guidelines when selecting your travelmate:
1.) choose a bag that can fit your laptop- even if you don’t foresee yourself travelling with it, at some point you will and popping it into your bag will elate you
2.) opt for a darker colour as the dirt and grease of travelling always finds a way to cling to your baggage- I like classic black with patent details or a tanned brown, they will go with everything
3.) get a bag with at least one smaller pocket on the inside for important items like your passport, mobile and wallet- the more division pockets the better
4.) make sure the handle fits over your shoulder (and with a jacket or few layers on)- I really like to do the hooked on the forearm and over-shoulder test- if it looks good both ways, it is probably right on in size ;)
5.) think about hardware- while it may be a fun trend it won’t be so well liked when you are pulling your back and shoulder muscles trying to support it once it is full
Honestly, finding that perfect sized bag with enough pockets to compartmentalize your travel necessities, without overloading yourself or having to pack another bag for going out and such makes your travel life that much easier and lighter. Good luck, I hope you find your perfect bag soon!
