The interview: first impressions really do matter.
“As someone who has interviewed hundreds of people over the years believe me, first impressions really do matter,” states the President of Hearst Magazines, Cathy Black in her book Basic Black (2007).
I think it is safe to say that when it comes to interviewing, any bits of advice to help alleviate some of the stress are very welcome. And so here is my own list of what to do to make...
How to find a VeggieMeal wherever you go.
Trying to maintain somewhat of a healthy balance in the food you eat whilst on vacation around the globe is definitely more easily said than done. It is easy to fall into eating whatever is available, or worse not really eating at all. Luckily, there are some useful tools to assist you in your quest for good food to satiate your body and mind.
One of the best tools is to claim lactose...
In search of the perfect travel (hand)bag.
Travelling recently, both internationally and domestically, I find myself attempting to perfect the combination of bags. Of course the art of packing perfectly, relating to both organization and falling right within that “not too much” and “not too little” equilibrium, is still entirely beyond me. However, I do think I may have discovered the secret to the handbag!
As a travel savvy fashionista...
The rudest person I encountered in France was an...
Today, at the Cafe de Paris in Monte Carlo, I experienced the classic table snatching. An assertive American woman and her friend stepped in front of my me and my mother to grab the last table basking in the afternoon sun, situated for ideal people (and car) watching outside of the Monte Carlo Casino Hotel.
The waiter, whom we had spoken (in French) to earlier, relayed to the woman that we were...
Barbie is back!
Perhaps prompted by the need for nostalgia of better times during these tough economic ones, or just a simple celebration of the iconic American happy-go-lucky always ready for a good time girl- the main display at the Galeries Lafayette in Paris is all Barbie.
Of course it is done in a very chic manner, mais bien sur! Each Barbie scene is presented in the infamous pink Barbie box- though 3-4...
Next time you are in Paris...
Here is what I suggest.
Start your day with a walk along the Siene River on the Quai des Tuileries, walking from the Place de la Concorde towards the Louvre, stopping at the street stands to pick up an old French poetry book or an artist’s sketch. Dip inside the walls of the Jardins des Tuileries and take a coffee and croissant at the outdoor Café Marly at the Louvre.
Hire a grey velo on the side...
Parisian Chic- part deux
Ok, so today in the very stylish 6eme and 7eme on le Rue de Four, Rue de Saint Germain de Pres and le Rue de Rennes, I partook in a bit of shopping and cafe streetside peopel watching. Ahh, what a wonderful way to spend the day! Here is the scoop on what the Parisians are wearing now:
Arabic pants- the baggy ones that gather at the cuffs and kind of sag in the middle. Worn in black and grey...
Parisian Chic
Popped across the Channel with my mom for a springtime visit to Paris. Walking the streets and frequenting the various cafes and restaurants, along with a stop off at Galeries Lafayette, and I am getting a sense for the Parisian style.
What’s in now is minimal and somewhat Western. All the girls at LoSushi last night were stunning and wearing next-to-nothing makeup. Natural beauty prevails here...
C'mon get happy!
There comes a time in everyone’s life when “getting happy” is more easily said than done. Perhaps you have lost some one, had a falling out in a friendship, undergone some relationship complications or it just doesn’t seem that things are going your way and lining up the way you’d like them to. That is when it may take a little extra effort to see the bright side of the road. With some solid...
Spring Cleaning the MakeUp Bag!
If you are anything like me, your makeup bag has endured some heavy hits- over stuffing, travel wounds and cracked cases that have now coloured the inside walls and bestowed an iridescent sparkly film over everything inside. Yep, the time has come to clean that puppy out and toss some out of dates products while you are at it!
First, check the dates and determine who has expired. Start with...
Personal Style Icons.
The economy is suffering and yet you not only want to do your part (by spending and keeping it going) but you also still feel the need to express yourself and your sense of style.
With the continuation of new fashions hitting the stores almost weekly and a tightened budget, there is really one sure way to invest in your wardrobe without misdirection and regret: align your purchases with your...
The Scoop on Supplements.
Back in my old stomping ground of Boulder, Colorado- where my undergraduate studies focused on optimizing the human body through the study of Kinesiology, a former peer and current good friend shared that his Nutrition professor said that the one sure thing about supplements was that they gave you expensive pee.
Translated, that means that most of the time you A) don’t actually need an additional...
Always a Bride's maid, and now a Maid of Honour.
As spring approaches so do the wonderful celebrations of love- weddings. It seems this year that a number of my girlfriends are not only bride’s maids but the maids of honour. Thus, I find myself trying to answer their questions about what they are meant to do and what exactly that title entails.
Upon consultation with previous maids of honour, this is what it all comes down to…
You are to make...
