Eco-fashion resource: beso boldly bare.

The weather is heating up and so are the make-up trends for Spring and Summer! The bold and smokey eye is here to stay, and slightly updated. Using greens and purples work well with any eye color and are a bit more fun than the standard grays or blacks. Keep the smokey eye contained and for a more polished look like Blake and Taylor, apply the dark shadow only to the lid and don’t blend outwards too much towards the brow line.

Want to try it, but feeling a bit intimidated with these dark hues? That happened to me too. Then, I was given a smokey eye kit from Bare Escentuals and I was pleasantly surprised by how easy it was to get a perfect smokey eye all on my own. :) Plus, you can feel good about the non-toxic natural mineral layers you are piling on when using Bare Escentuals- go boldly bare!

Beso.com offers the full Bare Escentuals line complete with the primer you will want to scoop up to get that bold eye to stick. I never thought to use a primer, but lately it is the talk of the town as it really does make a difference in how your long your eye make-up lasts and for perfecting you look.

(Thanks to Beso for their sponsorship!)

Aspen notable: Tenet.

This past weekend Josh Spear joined me in Aspen for a little ski town vaca before Aspen Fashion Week kicked-off. That boy seriously does have an built-in ‘cool radar’. In about 10 minutes he picked out what we are both deeming the coolest shop in Aspen- Tenet. Chatting with the sales associate, and it all came together- the owners are originally from New York. Yep, starting to make sense…

The store is merchandised to allow you to wander through, discovering new pieces with every pass. The delicate and artistic compilations in the jewelry displays held our attention, and the balance of outerwear, designer fashion and casual cool layers was right on. Oh yeah, this one gets the two thumbs up from me because it carries C. Marchuska- the eco-designer label. Sweet.

They hosted one of the opening in-store event parties for Aspen Fashion Week, serving ginger beer with rum (another golden star awarded!). It was a super fun atmosphere with Aspen’s most fashionable mixing and mingling- probably sporting their outfits from this little mountain gem known as Tenet.

Plastics for Fashion.

Plastic as a sustainable fashion source has long been a discussion amongst those in the eco-fashion industry. On the one hand plastic is viewed as a man-made and not so natural fiber source, but on the other hand it is very durable and therefore usually has a longer life cycle… Yep, you can see how this debate goes round and round in circles.

Well, whether or not you view plastic as a sustainable source, we can agree that all of the designs featured above are pretty awesome. They are all made from recycled plastic, and plastics make it possible… Looks like the debate just got a bit more complex, but for now I am of the opinion one (or some) effort in the right direction is better than none. What do you think?

Steep & Chic Fashion: Aspen Fashion Week!

For the next week I will be in Aspen- where the beer flows like wine, and the one-suits have made an astonishing comeback! An amazing ski town that has fashion as steep as its slopes, I’m here for the second annual Aspen Fashion Week.

There is a line-up to lust over- complete with a Snowstage to showcase high fashion ski apparel, fundraising parties for the FEED Foundation, on-mountain events (I will be sure to cover those!) and of course lots of in-store events with mixing and mingling.

Aspen is the perfect town to host this fashion-filled week. I took a stroll around the town yesterday and saw Gucci, Dior, Prada and Louis Vuitton oh my! Yet, go to any of the town’s restaurants and you see locals in hoodies and jeans or others dressed to the nines. It is truly a wonderful mix and I will be reporting on the styles and events all week.

I will also be posting daily to the Aspen Fashion Week Blog- so be sure to check it out for a more detailed portrayal of all the fabulous festivities.

The Weekly Wear: Upcycled Jewelry.

I was overjoyed when Jae C Maie Jewelry reached out to me to tell me about her upcycled jewelry line! A line that brings a bit of the past straight into the future through re-fashioned charms, beads and chains.

I am wearing a piece called “Fortune”- you can see the dove charm along with sweet little pops of orange and a crystal ball that hangs at the bottom. This necklace oozes Greta! My outfit is what I would call one of my typical London looks- leggings, layers and dainty jewelry that subtly catches the eye.

Here’s the official break down:

top- Twenty 8 Twelve

leggings- Arden B

sweater- Anne Taylor

boots- Old West, from my mom’s closet!

necklace- courtesy of Jae C Maie

Absolutely in love with the Jae C Maie collection, yet?… I thought so, and that is why we are doing a giveaway on GretaGuide. Leave a comment below and a winner will be chosen at random to receive one of Jae C Maie’s stunning original pieces (make sure you enter your email so I can get a hold of you- it is privately displayed, so don’t worry). Good luck!

Eco-fashion resource: beso organic.

GretaGuide is pleased to announce the partnership with super shopping site, beso.com, to showcase eco-fashion and non-toxic products. Green fashion is growing and, luckily, so are the resources! Not sure where to look? I’ve got you covered. Each week I will highlight a sustainable fashion label or beauty line available through beso.com to help show you the eco-ropes. ;)

Today I am featuring John Masters Organics- one of my great loves in life! This line is beyond amazing. Before I went back to London for the month of January, my stylist at the John Masters Organics salon in Manhattan gave me a month’s worth of samples to try the line. That is when my crush started. Gradually it really did grow into love. It outperforms any of the other products that I used before my non-toxic changeover. Erm, if I were truly British I would shout ‘Brilliant’ right about now!

If you have normal hair, opt for the Lavender Rosemary Shampoo- it cleanses without stripping your hair of its natural oils and lets you go a day or two before another washing. I also really love their Blood Orange and Vanilla Body Milk. It is fresh and sweet without being too fragrant. What is your favorite John Masters Organics product?

I couldn’t agree more- at the TEDxEast conference in New York this past fall, a speaker made the same point. At first it feels a bit strange to accept that creativity flows from that which has already been created. But, once you wrap you head around it, you realize this truth and your mind begins to spiral off of this thought to imagine so many wondrous things inspired by the very things and people before you. Happy ‘stealing’!

Fake fur- no longer a hairy situation.

At the Chanel Fall 2010/2011 Preview, Karl Lagerfeld shocked the fashion world by showcasing a collection chalk full of fake fur. “Fake fur has changed so much and has become so great now,” stated Karl Lagerfeld.

A trend that is all to familiar to PETA spokeswoman and designer, Stella McCartney- the faux fur trend seems to be gaining momentum. Lagerfeld took it one step further, building a set of glaciers to highlight what he is calling ‘global cooling’. Not so sure about the ‘global cooling’ statement- though his head is in the right place. The less we ‘harvest’ animals the better use of our resources and less green house gases we produce- thereby decreasing global warming. I knew I could come full circle and go beyond a pretty set to explain Lagerfeld’s vision!

Check out the presentation video on Fashion Me Green to see the glacial set and fantastic faux fur designs.
